This Patriarchal Town

This piece flowed out of my hands tonight. It is as if I am bringing together the parts, transmuting energy in my soul and body and going to the next level in life. Read on.

What encompasses the Southeastern Michigan (Detroit) region is patriarchy. I have been becoming more clear with this oppressive energy of this place and region. I currently reside and work in this region. I know what I can do with this energy as a medicine woman. I may not be here to heal it or free up any energy. I may be here to just be in my power no matter what. To be in my Goddess power and not stumble over the thick and stale energy of age old patriarchy. I have experienced more sexism in this region that in any other place I have lived. You can feel it in the air.

As a healer and reader I can see that the pictures that the majority of people have created in this region are male based. What I mean by pictures is basically consciousness. It is a collective of choices, decisions and declarations that the majority of those residing in this region have chosen. They have chosen patriarchy, abuse, control and linear thinking. There is a lot set up here that has not been taken down by the consciousness of the people that have resided here. The energy of this region is ages old and are directly connected to some European energies like kingdom and fiefdom energies from the Middle Ages. If a pattern does not clear it repeats until there is healing and the lesson is complete. This region is far from this and I can tell you that as a reader and healer it is not changing anytime soon. Most people who are choosing more matriarchal, creative and balanced pictures leave the region. If the town or city has a bit more matriarchal energy than Detroit (and its suburbs) then people will flee if they can. This may mean that they go to Denver, Colorado or Missoula, Montana. People leave because the pictures are lest constrictive and confining. They go because their heart and spirit can breathe.

I am probably writing this because I was just in Colorado for work last week. I felt a huge difference in the cities and regions. It made me take a look at Michigan's and Detroit's energy in a different, ehem, light. Denver was more vibrant and I saw a lot of confident women in their business suites downtown. Boulder is very bright and it was like some sort of soul homecoming for me because I used to live there. My spirit opens up in Boulder with the blend of the front range of Colorado where the wide open spaces of the plains and the mountains interweave. When I got back to Detroit I could feel the sharp and harsh energy of this region. It is like the energy here is flat-lined and dead. It is sad that the patriarchal energies made it this way.

We need both energies to make a place whole. We need linear and creative thinking to create a new world. We need power in a healthy way to create a new world. We need healing from both patriarchal energies and matriarchal energies. We don't need cut and dry energy that leaves our region dead. Michigan is a dire need of balance and wholeness. Its core is the least vibrant region in the United States. There are beautiful things taking place here but the pictures are still in place. The tale of the region will keep repeating itself until the people that commit to living here choose otherwise.

Writing this piece helps me come to peace with my current space in life and the soul declarations that brought me here. I came back to this region to understand a lot of the old patterns set up in my life and family. I am rewriting my tale mixing matriarchy and embracing the Goddess that I AM. Thank you for the lesson. Its time to move on and out eventually to a place where my soul and heart are aligned.

That's from the healer side of my life, my authentic self. What do you think, feel and see about the southeastern Michigan (Detroit) region?

Thank your for that fascinating post. I've never been to Detroit, but I live in New York City, and I think what you wrote about the patriarchal and linear-thinking vibe of the city resonated with me. I used to live on the West Coast, and while I had issues with it, I definitely felt more open there. People in New York City shield themselves and close their hearts, and it's detrimental to the larger community.

My friend told me about this group in Detroit. http://detroitevolution.com/ I don't know too much about them, but they seem to be trying to create a more loving community in the city.

Awesome to hear your voice as a healer and the dialog with the spirit of the land.

You offer some very powerful observations about soul loss of people and the earth. For 35 years I lived and worked in South Florida, the last 12 years it was so difficult. Development has bulldozed everything natural, I see it happening time and time again. Add hurricanes to the mix and well I can relate to your statement of staying in my power no matter what.

Maybe journey to the spirit of the land to witness the presence before the wounding occurred ask if there is a remedy or a soul retrieval you can do, in group or in your practice.

Keep sharing.

I agree, Detroit has some sexist vibes. At least within the city proper, I think that many people really stick to so-called traditional ideas of what it means to be a man and what it means to be a woman.

I think a huge factor in this is just straight up ignorance. But the ignorance is caused partly by poverty. I can understand how someone struggling to survive really isn't going to care to have abstract dialogs with themselves about gender constructs.

Right On! I have never been to detroit, but from films, articles and writings, its always struck me as a very patriarchal city...and like torgana said, reminds me of how I used to feel living in NYC.

I have since relocated to San Francisco, and I feel the energy here is more appropriate for me in this time in my life. I do feel the root of this patriachal energy runs very deep in the collective and individual conciousness in all parts of American cities (especially urban cities),(actually in this world for too long!) and feel maybe there is something to be said for the west developing at a later time, when change in general was, cant explain into words but, changing as well, making the hold onto such systems less stable?....I dont know, but I appreciate reading your thoughts on this topic, very inspiring. I am new to your blog, so thank you and though I may not comment, I have it bookmarked and look forward to reading. (sorry for length in comment)

Hooray for the shoutout to Missoula! As someone who moved here recently to go to school, I notice how warm, welcoming, and loving everyone here is, as compared to my old home. It gives me great hope, and I love how their kind attitudes match the beauty of the land surrounding us.
