Poem - PMS

My moon time is on its way! I feel the changes in my body. Sometimes I have so much creative energy that I am inspired to write more poetry and do art! Its always interesting! I have been learning to embrace my moon time more over the years instead of despising it every single month. Plus dream time prior to my moon time beginning is sweet!

Renee at Womanist Musings has inspired me with her posting about her moon time - So I Got My Period and Its Period Time Again. I love both of her posts! So here is a short poem I wrote awhile back about Pre Menstrual Syndrome! ENJOY!

PMS

8-1-2008

To me PMS stands for…
Partially
Misunderstood in
Society
OR…
Primarily
Misrepresented
Sex
OR…
Pervasive
Matriarchy
Subjected
To be dishonored by society.

Lovely. All women should be taught to embrace the moon time...so many perhaps make themselves ill with the thought of it impending. And it doesn't help that the men folk have taught all of this time that it is a dysfunction.

You know, my moon time has been during the full moon phase for the previous 3 months...this time, just missed it...but whoa, I can feel the difference in mind, body and spirit...

RJ - Yes, it is so important to embrace the moon time. Yes, it is by no means a dysfunction. In fact, I feel it is a societal dysfunction to not accept the moon time and all that it brings.

daxohol - Wow, mine used to be like that. It usual starts a few days after the full moon is over. But, mine used to start on the full moon! It was intense! Yeah there is definitely a difference.

Love your poem! Mestruation is celebrated in my Wiccan tradition. We have parties for those young women who are experiencing their first bloods. As a Dianic, blood mysteries are an important part of our practice. Our menstrual blood is held as most sacred, as the blood of the womb, of life and the magick of bleeding for days, without dying, without being cut and following the cycle of the moon and Earth.

Personally, I think the same thing that makes us more psychic and our dreams more vivid during our moontime is the same thing that that is called, "pms". Society labels it as a disorder because it doesn't fit in with society's needs. I long for a time and space where women could go and dream in the dark, self nurture and connect with Divinity each and every month. That all would respect and cherish this holy time that all women share together.

Sloth Womyn - I am glad you like this poem! I just posted another one today! I love that menstruation is celebrated in the Wiccan tradition. I have been wanting to learn more about Wicca but have not really read anything about it. Maybe you would have some good recommendations of books that I can read?

I feel that once society fully embraces the feminine power, magic and beauty we will truly have a shift here on Earth. If a womyn has to go around in shame, guilt and disgust about her own body then we have some major problems. It is a time that needs to be cherished and holy for all. It should be celebrated because we create life if we never physically create it. We are always in a constant death/rebirth process in our menstruation cycles in our lives. It is a deep spiritual process for many of us.

Since we don't have that space on this physical plane we have to create it. If it is a few individuals at a time we can spread our consciousness in how we value this the moon time. Hopefully it will spread and then there will be a shift.

Okay, "moon time" sounds incredibly beautiful to me. Especially when I'm comparing it to women I know who say, "Oh, it's THAT time of the month again" or guys I know who say, "she's on the F...ng rag." It dispels the idea that women's bodies are not something to be talked about in public or that when women menstruate they turn into crazies.

And you're absolutely right about the idea of a spiritual rebirth. I think it has been that way for me, but I never looked at it that way. There's too much myth that women's bodies are somehow polluted because we bleed every month.

So, from here on out, I'm totally saying "moon time." We should be celebrating our bodies, not hating them.

PS Great poems! :D

Dolly Speaks - I am glad you like saying moon time! It sounds much better to me. Yes, this is about celebrating out bodies. If we do not celebrate our bodies who will? We have to start somewhere!
