Poem - Burdensome Recognizable

I wrote this poem while in South Dakota. I was impacted by so much while I was there and I was able to process it all by writing some poetry. Here is one of the poems.

Burdensome Recognizable

November 3, 2008

The Plains expansiveness flourishes with abundance,
Undeniable,
Rapture calculated holy,
Steeples like the old way tower the land,
Not a mountain,
Or a skyscraper,
Nervousness,
Nervousness,
The land closes,
Like a car door slamming,
The steeple,
Distorted,
The holy christening,
Divine birthright,
Distorted with blood,
Dripping down,
Off the steeple,
Onto the land,
Dripping,
Encircled by nations,
Lakota,
Dakota,
Nakota,
Ancestors surround,
Beckoning a call,
The land collapses,
Stuck in mud,'
Refinement pillory,
Praise every Sunday,
Not knowing,
Confinement,
Persecution ran away from,
Persecution delivered,
Run off the road,
Pausing,
Wiping the sweat off your forehead,
Chased by,
You're not free,
Persecution annihilation,
Correspondence of the word,
To destroy,
Organ,
Chants,
Worship,
Loyalty to death,
On the Plains.
