Poem - Ancestral Sorrow

My heart was heavy when I wrote this poem. I was feeling so much sorrow about so many issues and experiences in my life and in this world that it had to be processed out in the form of a poem. Writing is how I process most of my experiences in this life.

Ancestral Sorrow

August 20, 2008

Evolution is sorrow,
Feeling the sorrow,
Understanding the sorrow,
Knowing the sorrow,
Being with the sorrow,
Not just looking at the sorrow,
Not pushing away the sorrow when it comes our way,
The sorrow as a prescription for healing,
The sorrow as a remedy for evolution,
Sorrow in the heart,
Sorrow in the spirit,
Sorrow felt all around,
Sorrow for not speaking,
Sorrow for not being seen,
Sorrow for the wounds,
Sorrow for carrying the load of annihilation,
Genocide,
The colonized mind,
The colonized body,
The raped body,
The raped land,
The assaulted body,
The assaulted land,
The violent and torn body,
The violent and torn land,
Homes gone,
Culture gone,
The heart heavy,
The heart tired,
Whispers of rebirth,
Moving to rebirth,
Ancestral sorrow carried in my body,
Mind and spirit,
To heal.

I can identify with sorrow. I see and live it daily in some neighborhoods. People selling their souls for glitter, gold, and Hollywood. Not knowing who they were is who they are inside the recesses of their hearts. The future begins today. Thank you for this healing piece of poetry.

Michael - I saw the name eagles and I knew it was you. It was so great to meet you at the poetry gathering at AJ's! Yes, it is really sad that people sell their souls for all of that stuff. Its just stuff really and distracts you form the truth. I am glad you enjoyed this poem. Thanks for stopping by over here!
