Happy Earth Day! (everyday)

There are numerous events happening on Earth Day today all over the world!

The Indigenous Earth Day Summit is taking place from April 22nd-23rd at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan. This summit is sponsored by the Center for Native American Studies at NMU. While addressing environmental issues from an international, multi-cultural approach participants can expect to engage in an intercultural sharing with Indigenous peoples from the Americas and Australia. Several of the speakers include Garry Morning Star Raven. He is a traditional Anishinaabeg (Ojibway) teacher who will be presenting on 'Aki: Mother Earth.' Other keynote speakers include the Austrailian Aboriginal Delegation who are will bring the Traditional Knowledge Revival Pathways. They are touring Michigan to establish a Three Fires branch. The Ojibway (Ojibwa, Ojibwe), Odawa (Ottawa) and Potawatomi are the tribes make up the People of the Three Fires.

Earth Healing Initiative: EPA Great Lakes 2008 Earth Day Challenge enters its busiest week of the year with help from Native Americans and interfaith groups across the Great Lakes. The event is taking place from April 19th-27th. There are more than 100 projects going on throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

My alma mater Naropa University has Earth Week all this week! Naropa is hosting multiple events and activities in honor of Earth Week.

Check out Women's Health Research News blog for more Earth Day news and information! There will be four posts this week about environmental issues and what you can do to help.

In other news...

Bolivia's first Indigenous President Evo Morales believes an end to the capitalistic system will save the Planet. *I agree*

Efforts to stop the capitalization of the land on the Yankton Sioux reservation in South Dakota are still taking place. Read the article It's Mother Earth against Corporate America on Rabble News by Jessica Yee. "This is a message to all our Nations that we need to start using one mind as a people and stand together. I would like to thank everyone who took part in protecting the land and people, because when it comes down it, it will be a victory for all."
